First & Final Scenes of Every Season
I was open to pain and crossed by the rain
And I walked on a crooked crutch
I strolled all alone through a fallout zone
And came out with my soul untouched.
Roy keeley endgame is also borderline unethical because Roy was literally developing separation anxiety from Keeley and any qualified zoologist will tell you that if your boyfriend has separation anxiety you NEED to get a second boyfriend to keep him company. They are social animals and they need enrichment and interaction while you are away
Tedbecca this, Tedtrent that, blah blah Roy x Keeley x Jamie…
I think the ship we can all agree needs to be canon is DR JACOB X LOSING HIS GODDAMN LICENSE
God. What an image. What an interesting way to frame Trent’s gay mug within this shot. I can’t stop thinking about it.
He brings it with him into Rebecca’s office, but it’s covered. A rainbow hidden behind a beige square box.
Boxes and triangles have been a big motif this season, and it’s pretty clear what they represent:
“Constraints put upon you by society and by yourself”. For the footballers, these constraints are positions within the field, and they need to let go of them to achieve Total Football. A beautiful life, as Beard puts it.
But we all know sport is quite the metaphor, and Ted’s search for happiness parallels the team’s search for success. He, too, has constraints put upon him by society and, notably, by himself:
Ted’s box is heterosexuality, and he needs to break free from it.
Back to Rebecca’s office.
The “girl talk” scene starts with, seemingly, only Ted and Rebecca in the room. Then, with a dramatic camera pan, Trent is revealed as having been there all along, by Ted’s side. Why do I bring this up? Because there is an expectation of heterosexuality, coming from the viewer. The expectation of Ted and Rebecca, a romantic pairing, and Trent on the sidelines or not there at all.
This ties into the theory that it was an intentional writing decision to not let Trent and Ted have scenes alone since episode 2 of season 3. There is always someone else in the room with them, and the presence of that someone else might be what keeps Trent’s feelings unspoken, to be displayed to the audience only through fond looks, cowboy shirts and red string bracelets.
Which is perfectly illustrated by the rainbow mug hidden behind that beige box, with nothing visible but the red handle.
Pointing at Ted.
